Katelyn's First Day of First Grade!!

Well...my baby has been a first grader for about 30 minutes....and I am already posting the pictures from this morning! I may just succeed at this blogging thing after all!!

Katelyn gave me very clear instructions for her morning breakfast...purple pancakes with a red icing heart! She was super nervous, but excited too! Our new next-door neighbor, Anna Claire, is also a first grader and is in Katelyn's class. They became best friends almost immediately when they met in July, so that helped make the morning a little more exciting for both of them!

Katelyn was really worried that she would not have time to finish her "warm ups, (which would mean having to miss recess and stay inside to finish the work), so she frantically began working the minute she got into her classroom. Poor thing has had major anxiety about the warm-ups thing all summer :( I know the teachers have to motivate the kids to focus on their work, but all it has done for Katelyn is make her dread starting school...which is really sad to me because she LOVED school last year. Hopefully after today, she will see that she can do the work in plenty of time, and then she will be able to relax and enjoy First Grade!!

To say that I am not a faithful blogger would be a GIANT understatement! But I promise I will try to do better, especially once Kyndal is born. I know it is the quickest and easiest way to share pics and updates with all our family and friends across the nation.

Speaking of updates...

Quite a lot has happened since my last post almost a year ago. Since last November, I/we

1) tried several more rounds of fertility treatments,
2) found a peace about being a family of 3 if that is what God had for us,
3) decided that I would start a new career that would allow me to continue to be involved in all of Katelyn's school/extracurricular activities,
4) earned my real estate license and joined Keller Williams Realty in The Woodlands,
5) and found out 4 days later that I am pregnant!!

I can't say that I totally understand God's timing and sense of humor, but I know that we are blessed beyond measure for all that He has given us. And adding Kyndal to our family will be just another incredible gift from God!

Another big accomplishment in our family was Katelyn's completion of her kindergarten year, where she was a shining star both academically and socially. She made some sweet new friends, learned how to read, and even had her first "crush"! We are so proud of her! She starts First Grade in a few days, and I can't wait to see what this year has in store for her!

Hopefully I can post some pics from the last year soon (and finish making the new banner for this blog!) BUT, I'm not making any promises!!

Lots of big days...

On Friday, we went to school for Katelyn's Teddy Bear Tea. She chose her new favorite outfit to wear...

And she just LOVES her new teacher...

She was very excited to have a little "schoolwork" to do, even though school didn't start for 3 more days...

And she was thrilled to discover that two other girls from our neighborhood, Abi and Maria, are in her class...

We spent the weekend having fun together as a family and celebrating the new chapter of our lives that began today...the first day of kindergarten!! Katelyn was so excited! She said she was a little nervous this morning as we were getting ready, but once I reminded her that she would start having real homework (instead of the pretend kind she has been doing lately), she was ready to go! We walk to her school since it is in our neighborhood. We got to take a few pictures as we waited in line to get our "Visitor" badges so that we could walk her to her classroom. And once we got to her door, she gave us a quick hug and kiss goodbye, hugged her teacher, leaned over and whispered "homework!" into my ear, and then skipped off happily into her class! I didn't even have a chance to get emotional...it all happened so fast! Then when I picked her up from school, she spent about 45 minutes excitedly telling me all about her day, including how she now has another best friend, Piper, who she ate lunch with, played on the playground with, and wants to have over to play at our house asap! It is going to be a great year!

San Diego Vacation

Hello! Once again, I am WAY behind on my blogging. Perhaps I will get caught up next week once Katelyn starts kindergarten. That's right....my baby is starting kindergarten on Monday!!! Time sure flies! She is totally ready, but I'm not so sure I am...I will bring the Kleenex with me when we walk her to school that morning!

Anyway, we have had a very busy summer. I promise to get a slide show of pictures put together soon. But for now, I had to share two pictures with you from Legoland when we were in San Diego last week. First, here is a picture of Katelyn on her very first roller coaster ride. She LOVED it!

Needless to say, she did NOT love the second roller coaster. But she was a trooper, and even agreed to give coaster #3 a try. All in all, she showed us a new adventurous side that we didn't know she had. We all had a great time! Thanks Grandma and Banka!

Spring program, soccer, and splashin' around

We had lots of fun and activities this week. First, we had a makeup soccer game on Tuesday from last Saturday's rainout. And, Katelyn scored her very first goal ever! She did GREAT! Then, we had the Spring Program at SonKids Preschool, and we were lucky enough to have Mimi, Pops, Aunt Ali, and cousin Connor come from Nacogdoches to join us. Katelyn sang her heart out, and looked just beautiful doing it! We had another soccer game today, and then we headed out to Lake Woodlands with the kids while Kyle and Pops played golf. We got some great pictures by the water, and Katelyn and Connor had a good time splashing around too! Here are some pictures from this week....

Hannah Montana The Movie

Katelyn has been anxiously awaiting the release of the new Hannah Montana movie, which opened today. So, we rounded up a few friends and headed for the movie theater this morning. It was filled with screaming girls dressed in lots of sparkly Hannah attire and moms toting armloads of popcorn, drinks, and candy. After spending the equivalent of one month's salary on admission and snacks, we settled in for 2 hours of pure Hannah Montana bliss (complete with the unparalleled acting of Billy Ray!) The girls had a great time, and they were inspired to create a video of their own when we got home....enjoy!

Soccer season has begun!

Katelyn has started her very first season of soccer! Kyle is her coach, and both of them could not be more excited! They had their first practice on Tuesday night, and afterward Katelyn told me "it was the greatest day of my life!" (Sorry, Grandma...I guess soccer trumps American Girl dolls right now!) The kids got to choose their team name, and my little Hannah Montana fan convinced them all to be The Rockstars! Here are some pictures from the first practice...

Katelyn's First Half-sleepover!

So....I think Spring Break has made me a little nutty! Yesterday, Katelyn had a friend over all day, so I was able to get some things done around the house while they played. And then around 4:30pm, I had an idea. And that is when my original plan for a nice relaxing evening when right out the window! Kyle had a late night business thing, so I decided to let Katelyn invite a few friends over for a half-sleepover. (For those of you wondering what in the world that is, let me tell you....it is just like a sleepover (complete with pizza and other junk food, pajamas, sleeping bags, popcorn, movies) but the kids don't actually spend the night. Genius, right?! I had the girls come over around 6pm, and told the moms to come back to get them around 10pm.) So, by 6:30pm, we had 11 little girls here ranging in age from 3 to 6. They had so much fun laughing, squealing, playing dress-up, and having pillow fights! The last two girls left about 10:45pm. It was not a relaxing evening, but I am so glad I let Katelyn do it...it will be a Spring Break memory that will last forever! All day today she just kept saying, "Wasn't last night just so awesome, mom?!" Here are lots of pictures from the festivities:

Once again , I am VERY behind on my blogging! Since my last post, we have had playdates, vacations, and birthday parties that all warrant mentioning on the blog. But between working, vacationing, and taking care of Gracie (who, I might add, already weighs 25 lbs. and is only 4 months old....YIKES!! So much for the "medium-sized dog" we thought we were getting!), I have not found much time to sit and write. Anyway, I will add vacation pictures (including ones of the CUTEST little 7 month-old EVER, my nephew Kaiden!) But for now, here are a few of the ones I took with my new camera (thanks to my sweet hubby who gave me the Nikon D90 for our anniversary!) last week. Katelyn was so excited to have a photo session in the bluebonnets. She is quite the little model these days! Enjoy!

It's official...I've lost my mind!

OK...so today was one of those days where I was totally in a "go with the flow" mood, which those of you who know me realize is a rare thing...I tend to be a very Type A planner sort of person. Anyway, when Kyle suggested that we all go to the gym together this afternoon, I was fine with that. We loaded Katelyn up and headed for the gym, which happens to be in a retail center that happens to have a Petsmart in it that happened to be having a Montgomery County Animal Shelter adoption day. So, we waved at the puppies as we passed by, and continued on to the gym. When we walked inside, we realized that the Kid Zone is closed on Sunday. So Kyle went to work out while Katelyn and I went down to Petsmart to pet the puppies. As we walked, I reminded her that "WE ARE ONLY PETTING THEM...THAT'S ALL!"

So, long story short...meet Gracie, the newest member of the Beard family!

She is the sweetest little 8-week-old Australian Shepherd mix puppy. We love her already!!

T'was three days before Christmas...

We had such a great day together yesterday as a family, so I wanted to share our day with you. Kyle had the day off work, so we had lots of activities planned. First, we went ice skating at The Woodlands Ice Rink...

Then we headed to church at Fellowship of The Woodlands for the Christmas Eve service (yes, I know it isn't Christmas Eve yet, but our church has 11 services, so they have to start early!) We arrived about an hour before the service started, so we got to take a few pictures, visit Baby Jesus at the live nativity, climb into a sleigh with Santa, decorate a cookie, and make an ornament! It was very cool, and the service was great! Then, we headed outside for s'mores and hot chocolate in the church courtyard on our way to the car.

We finished off the evening with dinner at one of our favorite fajita restaurants, Chuys! All in all, it was a great way to start our Christmas week! We are so thankful for all the blessings in our lives...wonderful friends and family, a fantastic community, great churches, and most of all....our Savior, Jesus Christ, who was born over 2000 years ago...lived a perfect, sinless life...willingly died on a cross for our sins, not His...and then rose from the grave 3 days later to triumph over death and make a way for us to spend eternity in Heaven with our Maker. Happy Birthday, Jesus!

Quick trip to Dallas

Kyle and Katelyn had a great daddy-daughter weekend a few weeks ago when I went to Dallas for a dear friend's wedding. I also got to spend the day with my very best friend, JT. We have been friends since high school, and we were roommates all through college at A&M. We have shared so many of life's joys, challenges, and heartaches together...and even though we may go months at a time without talking or getting together, we will always be family! It was so much fun getting to just hang out with her, hold sweet little Callie (who was 2 months old when I visited!), and meet Hannah for the first time too (she's 2 years old, so that's how long it has been since JT and I have seen each other!) And of course Matt is always the most gracious hubby ever! They are such a beautiful family, inside and out! Thanks, Coats family, for a great visit!

Pumpkin Patch field trip

Katelyn's class took a field trip to a pumpkin patch that one of the local churches creates in its inner courtyard. I got to go along as a chaperone. The kids had a great time decorating mini pumpkins and sugar cookies!

Howdy from The Woodlands, TX! I must apologize AGAIN for waiting so long between posts...time just seems to fly right by! So, I will start my update way back in August. We took a trip to Galveston with my family the week before Hurricane Gustav threatened the Texas coast. The weather was great, EXCEPT for "the great mosquito plague" that forced us to literally sprint from the condo to the car to the pool/beach while simultaneously thrashing around to keep ourselves and our kiddos from being covered with mosquito bites. But once we were down on the sand, a great time was had by all...

We also went to the aquarium at Moody Gardens while we were in Galveston...the penguins were our favorite!

Hi! I know it has been a while since my last post....we've had just a little going on! We went to Galveston for vacation the last week in August, had to leave 2 days early because of Hurricane Gustav...the week we got home I had a tonsillectomy...the next week we had to evacuate because of Hurricane Ike (while I was still very reliant on heavy pain meds!)....we were without power for 5 days, and a GIANT pine tree from our yard was uprooted and crushed our fence and our neighbor's bedroom...and now I will be returning to work on Monday at Katelyn's school as a preschool teacher! It feels like we are living life at warp speed!

BUT, I will get some pictures posted soon, I promise!

Exciting news from the homefront!!

OK...so the other stressful thing that I have been referencing in previous posts has now also been resolved!! We are blessed beyond measure, and I continue to be in awe at how perfectly God works things out in His timing. I know the Bible tells us to "be anxious for nothing," but I still struggle with that a lot!

Anyway, Kyle has been looking to make a job change to something that is more along the lines of his skills set. He is such a "people person", "social butterfly", and a true salesman at heart. Needless to say, crunching numbers at a desk 90% of the time did not leave him feeling fulfilled at the end of the work week! We definitely recognize the blessing that his job as an underwriter at AIG has been for us, but we also knew that it would really be a stepping stone to a career that Kyle could truly be excited about. So, this week Kyle was offered a broker position at A J Gallagher, which is the world's 4th largest insurance brokerage firm. It is the perfect job for him! His new title is Assistant Vice President and Producer, and we could not be more excited! He put in his two weeks notice at AIG on Friday, and he will start his new job on September 8th!

Back to God's perfect timing....it turns out that I will have my tonsillectomy on Sept 4th, so we will still be on our current health insurance since Kyle's last day is Sept 5th...so no new deductible to meet....yeah! And, Kyle will join the Gallagher team just in time to go to the annual convention in Boston that all health care insurance brokers attend in October! To us, it seemed that everything was moving at a ridiculously slow pace. But I guess God really did have it all under control!

Bittersweet morning...

You may have been wondering when I was going to get around to explaining what I meant in my last post about our life being stressful lately? Well, I still can't explain everything, but one of our "stressors" found some resolution this morning. As some of you know, we have been wanting another baby for over 2 years. So, last month we decided to see a fertility specialist here in The Woodlands. After the consultation, we decided to proceed with the IUI treatment that Dr. Gill recommended. Well, after a month of blood tests, injections (IN MY STOMACH!!), and sonograms, we found out today that the procedure did not work. We knew that it might take more than one round, but I was sure hoping it wouldn't!

BUT, there is an upside to this outcome...sort of. I had an appointment with an ENT (ear/nose/throat) doctor last week to discuss my chronic sore throat. He insisted that I need a CT scan of my throat right away, and he said that I need to have my tonsils out as soon as possible. So, obviously those things could not happen if I were pregnant, and I would have to wait another year to get all of it taken care of. I have a little trouble getting excited about a tonsillectomy, but I do know that I will feel so much better once it is done, and then hopefully we can have a healthy pregnancy! So, I will have my CT scan on Friday, and I hope to have the surgery within 2 weeks (more later on why I am rushing everything!)

The end of an era!

Though I have never viewed my car as a member of the family, naming it like several of my wacky friends (I won't name names, but Wendi and JT, you know who you are!), I have loved having my 4Runner for the past 9 1/2 years. It has been the perfect car, with absolutely no problems other than the occasional routine maintenance issue. It was my transportation for my first date with my husband, my trip to the bridal shop to pick out my wedding dress, my drive to Arizona to my first home outside of TX, my drive home from with hospital with my first child, etc. I always said that I would drive it until it dies.

Well, my sweet hubby had other plans. The past few weeks have been a little stressful for us (more on that in future posts), so we really needed a fun afternoon activity. And Kyle knew that when I did eventually need a new car, I really wanted a Sequoia. So yesterday afternoon, he took Katelyn and me to the Toyota dealership and BOUGHT ME A NEW 2008 SEQUOIA!!!! It is so beautiful, and so BIG! The new body style is much larger than the old one, so parking my new "tank" will be a bit of a challenge, but I'm sure I will manage. Katelyn loves the new car too. Several times today we caught her out in the garage climbing into the car "just to sit in it because I love it so much!" I have to take the car back in this week to have the overhead DVD installed, and then I'm sure she will like it even more!

Katelyn's Birthday MONTH!!

I can't believe my little girl is 4!!!! We celebrated in a BIG way! We didn't just celebrate one day with one party. We spent the month of June celebrating our little princess! It started with her opening her big present from Kyle and me before we left for our trip to Arizona. Though it was still several weeks until her birthday, we thought this might give her something to do on the airplane...

Next, she had a party in Arizona with Kyle's family. As far as Katelyn was concerned, a feast at Red Robin was the only way to go!

Then we returned home just in time for her big "Princess Pool Party" with my family and our friends from this area. Even her friend Victoria from College Station came down for the festivities! We had a great party at a waterpark near our house.

Finally, on her actual birthday, we carried on the annual tradition of having lunch at Chuck E. Cheese. This year Katelyn DID NOT want Chuck E. to come out and wish her a happy birthday, but she did have lots of her friends there to help her celebrate!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day! We were so glad to have our friends from College Station, the Myers family, spend the day with us. Kyle and Geoff (aka, "the dads"), spent the day golfing, of course. Emily and I had a relaxing day SWEATING poolside while the girls played (see what I mean by poolside in the pictures below). Molly and Katelyn have been the best of friends since they were just over a year old. We don't get to see them as much as we would like, so when the girls do get together it is always a special time. And now "Baby Ally" is old enough to join in the fun too!

Rhythm Nation - 2008 Ballet Recital

Our little ballerina had her first recital on Saturday. She was just the most precious little dancer ever! Her class had the best costumes by far! Their dance was called "Balloon Ballet", and they actually had balloons tied to their wrists. I was able to video the dress rehearsal, so when my computer decides to cooperate, I will post the dance. At the end of the performance, the girls sat down on stage and their daddies went up on stage with bouquets of flowers and picked them up. It was a tear-jerker moment for sure! Anyway, here are a few pictures of Katelyn in her costume.

Alright, so I have gotten a little behind with my updates! I will try to make up for it now by bombarding you with pictures, videos, and any other info that might make you appreciate this post more. I think I have to go back as far as March...or maybe even February?!?! Anyway, let's start with a glimpse at how Katelyn really likes to spend her afternoon:

A good pedicure just makes her day!! She is definitely a girl after her mom's own heart! We will certainly be spa buddies as she gets older!

Next, we have a little slideshow of our trip to the Houtson Zoo with Mimi and Pops in March. The weather was great, and we saw lots of animals. But I think it was the cotton candy that she and Pops loved best!

Finally, we have some pictures from a very exciting day we had last week when Katelyn got her birthday present from Mimi and Pops......HER VERY OWN HOUSE!!!! She has spent every waking minute inside playing "restaurant"! She really likes to be the "order girl"(i.e., the waitress)

Katelyn had a birthday party recently at a park with a fishing pond. As you will see, she had a great time fishing AND playing with worms! She put her daddy to shame....there is NO WAY he would bait his own hook! Katelyn had lots of fun pulling her worm into pieces and feeding it to the minnows. Happy New Year! Our first day of 2008 was relatively uneventful. However, there was one "video worthy" moment. Apparently, Kyle and our neighbor Jeff were recently discussing how some guys celebrate the start of the New Year in Wisconsin, where Jeff is from. These guys, a.k.a. "polar bears", cut a hole in the ice of a frozen lake and jump in. So, they thought it would be a good idea to start a similar tradition by jumping in the pool. It was one time that I was glad to be the videographer and miss out on the action!

Ice skating in The Woodlands

We had a fun family outing to the ice skating rink that is set up in The Woodlands each year around Christmas time. It is inside a big tent, and Katelyn has been asking to go each time we pass the big tent. So, she and Daddy laced up their skates (rented, of course!) and hit the ice. At first she didn't like it at all, as you will see in the first picture below. But then she really got the hang of it, and we had a great time! I can't wait to take her to Colorado to skate on a real frozen pond and to play in the snow!

We have had so much fun watching Katelyn learn and grow every day. Her vocabulary is really amazing for a 3-year-old. She loves to sing new songs to us that she learns at church or at school. At church, she has been learning all about how big and powerful God is, and she occasionally treats us with a song that illustrates her point...

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We are so thankful for all that God has blessed us with, and we certainly try to celebrate those blessings all year long. But at this time of year we are especially mindful of all that we have to be thankful for. Our Thanksgiving celebration officially started today with a Thanksgiving Feast at Katelyn's school. Then at ballet this evening, Katelyn performed a delightful "Turkey Wobble" show (see video below...the first part of the video is through the viewing window because the teacher wanted us to watch the routine once before we went in the studio in case the girls got a little stage fright once we were in the room). Tomorrow, we will spend the day doing our Thanksgiving grocery shopping and some yard work to get ready for our special visitors. Wednesday will be indoor cleaning day, as our guests begin arriving Wednesday evening. We are having 19....that's right, NINETEEN....guests for lunch on Thursday, including our family from Arizona (Grandma, Banka, G'ma, Grandpa Jo-Jo, Aunt Ti-ti and Uncle Mack, and Aunt Cameo), as well as several families from our neighborhood. Now, if you are wondering if we have moved to a big mansion or something...well, no....we are just going to have a "cozy" little lunch and hope that no one has personal space issues!

We welcomed some nice cool weather this afternoon, which made it a perfect day for bouncing! As you will see below, Katelyn and her friend Abi had an "electrifying" time!

Here are some pictures from our Halloween adventures this year. Katelyn (aka Angelina Ballerina) had a great time at the Fall Festival at her preschool on Monday, and then we joined some of the other neighbors for a round of trick-or-treating on Halloween night.
